Counseling - D'Evelyn Junior/Senior High School

The mission of the D’Evelyn Junior-High School Counseling Department is to promote the growth of well-rounded, self-reliant, successful individuals by teaching students effective communication skills and providing social-emotional, academic and college and career counseling for every student.

D’Evelyn counselors strive to create a proactive and supportive environment where every student will take responsibility for their education and gain the foundational knowledge and skills to be able to think critically, communicate effectively and advocate for what they need to reach their individual potential and become engaged citizens in their local and global communities.

Counselors will provide programs through a collaborative effort of educators, parents and the community that engage and challenge all students to be the best they can be.

Counselors will do their best to respond to emails and voicemails within a 24-hour workday. Counselors office hours are Monday-Friday from 7:45 am-3:30 pm.

Beliefs

Counselors believe all students can achieve success in the challenging academic liberal arts program at D’Evelyn.
Counselors believe in advocating for students and teaching students to advocate for themselves at school, at home and in the community so that they can achieve their goals and reach their potential.
Counselors believe in collaborating with teachers, staff, administration, parents and the community to support the education of our students.
Counselors believe in providing for the developmental needs of our students at all grade levels through our counseling guidance curriculum and ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan).
Counselors believe it is important to work with all the stakeholders including administration, teachers, staff, parents, students and the community to build a comprehensive guidance program.
Counselors will utilize an annual needs assessment and program exit surveys to gather data and provide relevant programming that meets the academic, personal and social, and college and career needs of our students.
Counselors value high ethical and moral standards in working with students, parents and teachers.
All students regardless of race, culture, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability should be treated equally, respected, and valued as an integral part of our community.

Counseling-Sponsored Clubs

Mentoring

Mentoring provides support and friendship to our junior high students through the leadership and care of our high school students. Mentoring creates a safe and fun environment to learn about D'Evelyn and to make new connections. We do fun activities like our scavenger hunt, egg drop, tie dye, carnival and more.

Mentoring meets approximately twice a month during seventh hour on Fridays. For more information, contact Molly Harrington.

Sources of Strength

Sources of Strength is a schoolwide, peer-led suicide prevention initiative with the mission of spreading hope, health and strength.

Since its inception, Sources of Strength at D'Evelyn Junior-Senior High School has grown to more than 100 students and adults working together toward the mission by engaging in the planning and execution of schoolwide campaigns.

We meet twice each month, either as a whole group or in smaller work groups, for planning and fun! If you are a student at D'Evelyn and are interested in getting more involved in Sources of Strength this year or in the future, please see your social emotional learning specialist or counselor at any time.

Student Voice

Student Voice is a districtwide initiative that empowers high school students from diverse backgrounds with leadership, cultural awareness, teamwork, and advocacy skills. Student Voice is a forum for students to collaborate with the superintendent and other schools, district and community leaders to create a sustainable movement for social justice in our community through compassionate leadership.
