DAZZLING JAGS:

Max Kim is one of our Junior High scholars of the month for the math department. This is Max’s second year as a D’Evelyn student, and it is his second year to excel in mathematics. Max completes every single Saxon problem neatly and thoroughly, never skipping any steps nor trying to get by with less than his best. His perseverance on homework pays off, since he rarely misses points on math tests, verifying that hard work on homework sets really does lead to understanding and mastering the material. Whether in person or online, Max always gives the class his complete attention. He contributes to the class through his insightful responses to questions. - Max was nominated by Mrs. Smith.

One of our two Junior High scholars of the month is Elle Pharris.  Elle has an incredible mind for mathematics and her work every day exhibits a tremendous amount of thought and reflection is rare in someone so young. In this COVID environment when most students simply watch whatever is on the screen, Elle ponders and questions.  On our "Friday Questions.", rather than merely writing down an answer to get her points, Elle thinks and considers her answer.   In that process, several times she has caught me in mistakes that I made because I did not take the time and consideration in presenting the problem that she gives to solving them.  She has already grasped that "critical thinking" that we hope to give to all students.  Thank you, Elle; your diligence has made me a better teacher! - Elle was nominated by Mr Bell.

One of the two Senior High scholars of the month is Shea Wright.  One of the goals of D'Evelyn is to help students improve over the course of their time with us. Shea is a shining example of the growth that we hope to see in all our students. Shea is very bright and has developed the capacity to "think outside-of-the-box" when formulas just are not enough.  Especially this year, he has demonstrated how thought and effort can lead to success. Watching how Shea has matured, not only in mathematics but as an overall student and citizen has been a great source of encouragement for me. Keep reaching high Shea! - Shea was nominated by Mr Bell.

One of the two Senior High Scholars of the Month is Elsie Vannice. Elsie is a subtle star in a room filled with stars. Elsie can handle the most complicated infinite series without error. She also can understand the most abstract concepts on a deep level. No matter how much homework I over-assign; she does it with a smile on her face! Thank you, Elsie! Elsie was nominated by Mr Ryckman
