Safety

D’Evelyn Junior-Senior High School has a closed campus. Once a student arrives on campus for school, they are not to leave unless given permission by the attendance office. The administrative staff will deal with any infractions of this rule.

A pass is required each time a student leaves a room during class time. Students who are in the halls during class time must have a signed pass or planner with a proper signature. In addition to the signature, the pass or planner must include the time and correct date.

Below are policies to help all students be safe, feel safe and feel welcome, including policies covering visitors, non-discrimination, dances and socials, public displays of affection, gang activity, and alcohol and drug use.

Families, please ensure your information in Infinite Campus is up to date. This information is how we contact you during emergency situations and reunification. We follow district guidelines for “holds,” “secures,” lockdowns, evacuations and “shelter in place.”

Behavior and Discipline

The high behavioral standards for D’Evelyn students apply in school, at school-sponsored athletic and extracurricular events, and at events connected to the function of the school.

Jeffco Public Schools’ student Code of Conduct, as written in the Student and Family Handbook, is strictly enforced at D’Evelyn. Families can request a paper copy of the code from the district.

Students are also subject to the D’Evelyn Comprehensive Discipline Plan, copies of which are available upon request through the office. In addition to the district conduct code, the following school rules will be enforced:

  • Leaving campus during the school day without permission
  • Dress code
  • Inappropriate public display of affection
  • Use of profanity

Additionally, if a student’s name appears on a substitute teacher's report as disruptive or disrespectful, the student will meet with the appropriate assistant principal. If a student’s name appears a second time, the student will be suspended from school.

Discipline information policy

According to state law and district policy, any teacher or counselor who works directly with a student is entitled to see the student’s information file. Students and parents or guardians may challenge the accuracy of the information in the discipline file. Students have the right to provide a written response regarding a disciplinary incident in which they are involved and to place the response in their disciplinary files.

Visitors

D’Evelyn partners with Jeffco Safety and Security to provide a safe learning environment for students.

We use the Raptor System to screen individuals who enter our building. All visitors must provide a driver’s license or other identification to enter the building. Further, all visitors must sign in at the main office upon entering the building, and name tags must be worn to travel the hallways – no exceptions.

Student visitors, other than currently enrolled D’Evelyn students, are not allowed to visit during the instructional day without prior permission from an administrator.

Non-Discrimination Policy

Jeffco Public Schools’ goal is to “value diversity and encourage respect and understanding in our school community,” and students learn best when all people are treated with respect.

This kind of positive climate also helps maintain the good reputation of our school in the community. At D’Evelyn, we will not tolerate disrespectful or discriminatory behavior. If a student is found to have treated another person disrespectfully, disciplinary action will be taken. When there is an accusation of discrimination at our school, we may all feel injured because of community reactions of “guilt by association.” We need to be sure that the actions of a few don’t speak for all of us.

It is important that when a student is treated with disrespect or witnesses an incident of disrespect, they discuss the situation promptly with a counselor or administrator so appropriate action can be taken. If students don’t speak up, their silence may be viewed as consent for the disrespectful behavior.

Dances and Socials

Student and parent presence and participation at school dances and socials is welcomed and encouraged. To make these events fun, safe and enjoyable for all involved, senior high students must fill out, sign and submit a guest request form at least 24 hours before the event. All district and school rules apply for students and guests on or off campus.

Junior high socials are for junior high students only, and high school dances are for high school students only. No outside guests are permitted. Junior high students are also not permitted to attend senior high dances. If students are required to leave for misconduct, they must immediately make arrangements to leave school grounds. Refunds will not be given.

Dance Guest Permission Form

Public Displays of Affection (PDA)

The D’Evelyn Discipline Committee has established the following guidelines:

  • OK: Hand-holding and hugging, defined by brief embraces, arms around each other’s waists
  • Not OK: Kissing, prolonged embraces, hands in inappropriate places such as below the waist or in each other’s pockets, sitting on other student’s lap.

Gang Policy

D’Evelyn is committed to maintaining a safe and positive environment. Any negative activity that threatens the safety or disrupts the education of students is prohibited and will be subject to disciplinary measures.

The school administration retains the right to ban any apparel, insignia, jewelry accessory, notebook or other school supplies, or any manner of grooming that by its color, arrangement, trademark or any other attribute denotes membership in gangs.

Alcohol and Other Drugs

Refer to Jeffco Public Schools’ Code of Conduct on student use of alcohol and drugs.

Emergency Communication

The fastest way to get information in an emergency situation is to follow Jeffco on X and Facebook (@JeffcoSchoolsCO) and check Jeffco’s homepage on the website for alerts.

The SchoolMessenger system uses what families enter into the Infinite Campus Online Registration system for contact information. Families must ensure this information is always updated.

Your Role: What Families Should Do in an Emergency

  • Stay away. Do not go to the school. This may interfere with procedures. Only public safety personnel will be allowed in or near a school during an emergency situation.
  • Do not call. Do not call the school or security staff. We understand you may want to communicate with your student during an emergency, but calling may prevent them from hearing important instructions.
  • Be informed. Monitor your phone, email, district social media channels, local law enforcement or fire social media channels and local news. Jeffco provides fast and accurate information to its community. In some situations, accurate information can take a long time to verify and share. Please be patient.
  • Be ready. When you are asked to pick up your student, come quickly and bring your identification to the reunification location communicated to you. Jeffco will only release students to adults listed on that student’s Infinite Campus page. Make sure anyone who could pick up your student in an emergency is listed. This can include neighbors, friends or other family members.

Jeffco Emergency Plan

Jeffco’s emergency plan covers all five phases of emergency preparedness: Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery.
