The opportunity is available to juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years old (some of the organizations we serve have a 16 year old minimum age requirement). The group does not conduct meetings or fundraisers. We do a different service project each month (usually on Saturdays). We serve organizations such as such as the Denver Rescue Mission, Jeffco Action Center, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity Restore, Project Cure, and Hands Automotive. | |||||||||||||||||||||

8 | FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) | HS Only | Monte Murphy | Some Fridays, 7th hour | Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a national organization that provides a faith-based network for student-athletes, teachers, and coaches in public schools. FCA Huddle groups participate in four main activities: faith education, discipleship/leadership, community outreach, and fellowship. Through these activities, student-athletes are able to strengthen their faith and form meaningful relationships with their peers. We meet every Friday during 7th hour, except for the last Friday of every month. We typically have between 20 and 30 kids attend. | |||||||||||||||||||||

The purpose of Girls Mentoring is to provide support to our junior high girls through the leadership and experience of our senior high girls. Girls Mentoring creates a safe, yet fun environment to learn about D’Evelyn and make new connections. How does it work? Junior high girls in 7th and 8th grade (mentees) are paired with a 10th, 11th or 12th grade female student (mentor). Each mentor/mentee pair is placed in a group with approximately 6 -8 other pairs. Each Group is led by a Group Leader (11th or 12th grader student) who will be responsible for leading the lesson plan, facilitating discussions and creating fun activities that help bond their group. We welcome 9th grade girls to get involved as Freshman Helpers who support the Group Leader. Girls Mentoring meets approximately twice a month during 7th hour on Fridays. | |||||||||||||||||||||
13 | Glass Club | 10 HS and 10 JH each sem. | Devon Lawrence | Some Fridays, 7th hour | Glass Club is a semester long club that teaches students grades 7-12 how to cut and fuse glass together to create a variety of super cool objects-everything from pendants, to ornaments, to plates, 3-D objects, and much more! We typically meet every other Friday but a calendar is given out with our specific dates. We typically have 15-25 people that participate each semester and students pay a $20 fee for materials and supplies. | |||||||||||||||||||||

Improvisational games performed in 4-7 shows per year. tryouts are required for high school students. We meet Friday 7th hours, and Tuesday mornings. For the past 8 years, we have a show to raise money for Tennyson Center (now we do it as a part of the Holloween Trick or Treat at school). We have reaised money also for Andrew Janiczech memorial scholarship last year. The troupe raises money mainly to help supplement costs for theater programs. | |||||||||||||||||||||

Interact is deeply involved in the surrounding community, partnering with two elementary schools, Fletcher Miller School for special needs, and our local Habitat for Humanity. We strive to take action, build international understanding, and make new friends in our own neighborhood and beyond. In the 2017/2018 school year, Interact was proud to bring together over 60 dedicated D’Evelyn students and offer nearly 2,000 hours of hard work to our community. We decorate hallways for Spirit Weeks, have a small part in the Pep Rallies, spend time with senior citizens at a local retirement community in multiple volunteer opportunities throughout the year, do at least 1 fall and 1 spring drive, and have at least 1 fundraiser. We also take the lead role in D’Evelyn’s recycling program as a way to serve the community. Membership varies from 20-30 students annually. Committed members of Latin Club have the opportunity to participate in academic competitions sponsored by the Colorado Junior Classical League. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. In order to qualify, second semester Juniors must have a GPA of 3.5 (weighted) or above and demonstrate their commitment to student leadership. Once inducted, the 20+ students meet on the first Wednesday of every month to plan activities for the school, and they keep a log of at least 15 volunteer hours per semester. Our NHS students demonstrate the cream of the crop at D'Evelyn, both academically and comprehensively. | |||||||||||||||||||||

30 | Spanish Honor Society | HS Only | Olivia Schott | 1 Friday during 7th hour a month | Spanish Honor Society (La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica) is an Honor Society sponsored by the national organization (AATSP - American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese) for those students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their Spanish I,II,III,and IV classes (this is a club for those students who are in Spanish IV and AP Spanish ONLY) and possess a passion for the Spanish-speaking culture. We do community service activities that support the Spanish-speaking community in Denver/Lakewood as well as cultural activities that celebrate the Spanish-speaking culture. Some volunteer activities that we have done/do: Canned Food Drive in November to benefit the Jeffco Action Center, Santa Shop (Jeffco Action Center), other activities with the Jeffco Action Center, partnering with a bilingual elementary school for after-school tutoring opportunities, school supplies drive (Jeffco Action Center), translation volunteering opportunities with the local immigrant's rights coalition, and Trick-or-treat street at D'Evelyn. Some of the cultural activities that we have done/do: Day of the Dead celebration at Crown Hill Cenetery, salsa dance lessons, almuerzo hispano (food party with dishes from around the Spanish-speaking world), Fiestas Patrias (Mexico's Independence Day celebration in Denver), Cinco de mayo celebration in Denver, dinners at restaurants with feed from the Spanish-speaking world, tango lessons, and more. | |||||||||||||||||||||
