~D’Evelyn Musical Instrument Drive…Learning to play an instrument can have a profound, positive impact on a young person, teaching valuable life skills and boosting confidence and self-esteem. And that unused instrument you have at home in your basement can help make it happen. Our growing instrumental music program has put us in desperate need of band and orchestra instruments for our music department.

We will be collecting donations of gently-used band and orchestra instruments that will be repaired for students at our school. The program is particularly in need of Cellos, Double Basses, and Alto Saxophones, but all instruments are welcome.

Even if you don't have an instrument, you can help by contributing a monetary donation. $150 is all it takes to repair a donated instrument and put it in the hands of a student. Drop off your instrument or any size donation (payable to DEF) to the band room or main office. Tax donation receipt available. Thank you for helping keep music alive at D’Evelyn!

~Pressing Issues Need D’Evelyn Community Involvement

As many of you know, Jefferson County schools are transitioning to a K-5/6-8/9-12 model. What many of you are probably not aware of is the impact that change will have (and is already having) on D’Evelyn Jr./Sr. High School and Dennison Elementary School. Because of this change, the first Accountability meeting on September 11th at 5:30 pm in the D’Evelyn library is being utilized to educate our community on the impact this change is having and will have for D’Evelyn. A subcommittee is currently working on solutions for this issue but we need and welcome community input.

In addition to the 6th grade transition dilemma, the Accountability Committee will be seeking input on other potential topics as they relate to D’Evelyn. In the past, student awards, student rank, and other issues have been raised but we need to hear from you. At our first meeting you will have the ability to provide input on these matters and take an active role in making D’Evelyn a better place.

Another area we need parent involvement is on hiring committees and curriculum/textbook reviews. To be eligible to participate on these committees, you need to attend short 20-minute trainings that will be provided during accountability meetings. Accountability meetings are on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 5:30 pm and the more people we can get involved, the greater our school will be. So, please mark your calendars to attend the Accountability committee meetings and gain a greater knowledge of our school while giving back.

~$1000 stipend!  D’Evelyn’s Steering Committee needs a note taker. Keyboarding skills a must.  Duties are to attend and take notes during our Monday evening meetings (usually 2 meetings per month for 2 1/2 hours).  Please contact Gina, Steering Committee Chair at Gina.coco41@gmail.com if interested.

~BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION:

Welcome back Jags! We are continuing to collect box tops, so put together all those tops you've collected over the summer and bring them in! Help us reach our $1000 goal. Check out Kleenex, Fruit Roll Up and Annie's brands!  There is a collection box located in the front foyer of school and one just inside entrance doors of the front office. Thank you for your continued support of this fundraising opportunity!
